The facts have not been verified, but Vance Luther Boelter may be a religious extremist. Extremism can be an individual mental problem, but it can also be a cultural problem that some individuals can be very susceptible to.
I read the early reports on him, and he seems to be a complex bundle of contradictions. He is or was a religious person with a lovely family. He appeared to be a salt-of-the-earth, great American.

I am sure someone will provide a complete psychoanalysis of this man after he is captured. However, several aspects of his past caught my attention. He homeschooled many of his children. He earned a doctorate in the advancement of learning and service from the now-defunct Cardinal Stritch University. He was the owner of a private security company in Minnesota, and he claimed to have clients in the oil refining industry in the Middle East. He was appointed by Governor Walz (the former Democratic Vice Presidential candidate) to a Minnesota workforce development board. He preached to a congregation in the Democratic Republic of Congo two years ago, imploring the unsaved to let Jesus save them.
So, how did Dr. Boelter, a man of God with a lovely family, become a murderer? It appears that the abortion issue put him over the edge. Many find it strange that people like Dr. Boelter place more value on the unborn than the living. How does one offset the other?
Unless his family is somehow complicit, I feel for them.
