This man reported for duty as a US Navy recruit in 1944. When the officer asked his name, he thought he was joking. He told the officer that his name was William Patrick Hitler.

William was Adolph Hitler’s half-nephew. William attempted to ingratiate himself with his famous uncle, but that failed. He later immigrated to the USA and was bankrolled by William Randolph Hearst on a lecture circuit denouncing his uncle.
He wanted to join the US military but no one would accept him. Finally, he wrote to President Roosevelt and he was accepted in the Navy. He served as a pharmacist’s mate for three years and was discharged with a Purple Heart.
He later changed his surname to Stuart-Houston, married, and raised four sons on Long Island, New York.
