For some of us who have witnessed the blatant [hypocrisy…duplicity…perfidy…betrayal…fraud] over the last 45 years, it is hard to believe that some people still cling to the illusion that the GOP is the moral party.
Immorality and stupidity happen to every political party and every person. No one is perfect. The real issue is what happens when someone does something immoral or stupid. As children, we notice that some children do not face repercussions for doing something wrong. In fact, some parents encourage their children to be bullies, scoundrels, etc. It is no wonder that these children rarely alter their behavior.
Likewise, with political parties. Some parties withdraw their endorsement of a candidate after the candidate commits a significant error. Conversely, other parties whitewash, excuse, or defend the immoral or stupid action in a variety of ways. They may say, “Every man sows a few wild oats”, “Every man else commits a little harmless rape”, “It is a witch hunt; my man never did that,” and so on.
It is crystal clear to any human being that the party formerly known as the Republican Party now endorses and condones stupidity and immorality. Donald John Trump was convicted of sexual abuse and defamation against E. Jean Carroll. The Supreme Court recently affirmed the decisions of lower courts. On Monday, the President of the United States paid $5.8 million plus interest to his victim of sexual abuse.
The Democratic lobster fisherman from Maine, Graham Platner, was only accused ot sexual abuse, and in less than a week, he was forced out of his candidacy for Senate in Maine.
When “religious” people support convicted sexual abusers, they degrade their religion. What moral person would attend a church whose members overtly support sexual abusers?
I remember when Republicans at least had a leg to stand on when it came to morality.
