I’ve noticed a sudden silence among ordinary MAGA folks. Several months ago, I saw and heard that Trump was the country’s strongman who would solve all their problems.
Today, I hear less about Trump’s solutions to their problems and more generalized anxiety and frustration. They don’t talk about Trump, except in reflexive, tribal ways. They still identify with MAGA, but there is an obvious growing unease within MAGA. Recent surveys bear out this unease, as many Trump voters are now calling themselves Independents or Libertarians. Of course, Trump, like the high priest of a cult, immediately attacks any officeholder in the Republican Party who will not kiss his ring and casts them out of MAGA.
