No one is quite sure of the motivation for Trump’s preemptive attack on India. Was he punishing India for unfair trade practices, India’s purchases of Russian oil, or for some other reason? The tariff on India’s products was 25% and it was raised to 50% effective August 27, 2025.
The net effect of Trump’s “get tough” tariff diplomacy is that India continues to buy Russian oil, and India is suddenly friendlier with its long-time friend/enemy, China. Since they share a common border, China and India have a long history of getting along. However, recently they have had border skirmishes and friction on several levels. Trump’s “smartest man in the room” diplomacy is forcing the world’s most populous nation (India surpassed China in 2023) into the loving arms of China and Russia.
We are still waiting for Trump to stop Russia’s aggressive attack on Ukraine. For those counting, Trump is 225 days overdue with his promise to end the war. Perhaps the fog of magical thinking in the MAGA world is starting to dissipate? In the real world, there is no Trump solution for Ukraine; only blabber and more damage to America’s position in the world.

Trump is alienating every friendly country in the world. He wants to steal Greenland from Denmark. He wants to send our military into Mexico, like his 19th-century hero, James K. Polk. He wants Canada to become our 51st state. He daily lambasts one NATO member after another.
His only true friends are nasty authoritarians. However, Trump is no match for his authoritarian friends because they are smarter than he is and know how to manipulate him.
On the bright side, Trump’s children made $5 billion on paper from the Trump family World Liberty crypto-coins, so this week was not a complete bust. Moreover, people are still talking about the Trump takeover of Gaza. He may have a second chance at redeeming himself in the casino business after Israel destroys the strip and hands it over to Trump interests. Trump wants to create a Middle East Riviera.
